Need help with wmp issues causing major failure of pc...

this is going to be long, so apologies in advance but i have zero idea what to do with this pc now.

there are issues with new wmp and yahoo music...on this pc yahoo music stopped launching and i got a runtime error message. i got advice from creative (device used for yahoo music) as this is a common problem with wmp11. they suggested that i roll back to wmp10. i followed their advice on one pc and it worked perfectly. on this pc, however, i have created a large paperweight via the same process:
1. remove wmp11
2. remove windows media format 11 runtime
3. remove ms user mode driver frameworks feature pack 1.0
4 load wmp10

when i did this, the pc said it was unable to roll back. once that happened, i had no sound, no internet access, the pc wouldn't recognize any new devices, etc....basically i was dead in the water.

i tried to see if a system restore would work, but the pc won't allow me to do so. it says the pc isn't protected by system restore but it is turned on. also, when i try to launch yahoo music or wmp i get a 'low memory' error although the pc has 1gb of ram.

if there was a way to force a restore that would be great, but i have no idea how to proceed at this point. i even tried to reload wmp10 and 9 onto the pc via compact flash card (only thing that the pc would recognize)...wmp10 wouldn't load as i got a message saying the software wasn't 'xp logo certified', and wmp9 seemed to load but wouldn't launch as i got the 'low memory' error.

any help would really, really be appreciated. thanks!!

i'm obviously trying to avoid that, but am fully aware that i may not be able to do so. i was pretty 'wowed' by the fix crashing everything too!!
