I just bought a SMC2804WBR-CA (because I could get it cheaply) and I really haven't had much but troubles with it so far. :( First problem I noticed was that using 802.11g resulted in dropped connections fairly quickly while transferring large files (the signal strength was at 100%) I've tried every conceivable setting on the router side. (I'm using an Apple iBook 12" with a built in Airport Extreme 802.11g card) I've used the card on other 802.11b networks fairly hard, so I don't think it's that, but you never know, I haven't tried g yet anywhere else.

802.11b works considerably better, but if I really try and push things, by getting a few computers ping flooding it, etc. the router eventually just dies... it works fine for a while(few minutes), then it just stops dead, I have to hard reset it. I'm using the newest firmware I could find which I had to get off the Europe site because the USA one didn't list it yet (i think they are upgrading their site)

Right now I'm using it at 802.11b with WPA enabled, I'm in the middle of nowhere with no 2.4ghz phones so I don't think it's interference.

Is there anything I can do to make this thing more robust?

Thanks for any help!

unless the router is broken, like my dlink, it should never give you any trouble simply because... you dont need to even install it! Thats the grand thing about routers. cause man oh man, I am now 50/50 for needing to reinstall windows from scratch when installing a new wifi card. and I have yet to see one with a descent non poorly coded configuration client. Well, the linksys I had wasnt bad except that it didnt work in winxp. worked flawless in win2k.

I've been reading about other people complaining about similar issues with this router... just because you don't need to install it doesn't mean it works perfectly all the time(otherwise why are things like firmware updates released for hardware?)
