need help with wingate/DNS

Im helping a friend set up a wireless network in her apartment so she and her roomates can share the same connection. I have the network set up so that the computers can ping each other, but whenever i use IE to go to a webpage to make sure its works, it justs comes up with a page not found. Since the computer that has their cable modem attached to it has Win98, i used Wingate 5 to share the internet. the DNS server is activated on the wingate server and the clients are set to use the wingate server as their dns server. Also the network has fixed adresses, i did not use wingate's DHCP server. I am at a loss as to why the client computers will not resolve adresses.

Any Help would be greatly appreciated

Is wingate a proxy? If it is, you need to into Internet explorer properties and enter the address of the wingate server under the proxy settings.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but all DNS does is translate addresses from names.
