Need help with Win2000 Administrator Profile, desperate!

Okay...this is kinda funky - but here goes. I always use the default Administrator account for Win2000, but just about 30 minutes ago when I tried to log on - the whole profile was empty, like I had just installed or something. So I'm still on the 'Administrator' account, just my settings have all been taken out. I check the 'Documents and Settings' folder in C:\ and see the 'Administrator' folder, but there is also an 'Administrator.bak' folder - so I assume all my old stuff was backed up. I still don't know why the OS backed up my admin profile, but I checked the 'Administrator.bak' folder, and I can see that all my old settings are there: ie. star menu, programs, desktop shortcuts, favourites etc. So I assumed I would just need to delete the 'Administrator' folder that was created for some reason, and rename the 'Administrator.bak' back to 'Administrator. I relogged on, but no such luck, still an empty profile with none of my previous customizations/programs. What I need to know is how to reactivate the profile - I'm sure I explained it pretty thorough so I just need pretty direct instructions. I have the whole profile backed up, so I'm assuming it is retrievable. Any help would be VERY appreciated.

Thanks a bunch!

Already tried that - still doesn't show up for some reason 🙁.

I know this will not be alot of help because I am not a regular user of Win2k. But, if the extension of the file is .bak for backup, then it is probably compressed. Cutting and pasting would not work. Is there a utility to restore a backup? Somehow the info needs to be un-compressed and put back into the Administrator folder.

Actually - I don't think there is any compression. I can view the files just like a normal directory. And the weird thing is - my quicklaunch icons in the taskbar now show up, but nothing else that requires profile customization is. The start menu is limited to only a few programs (don't know why), my ICQ isn't recognizing my previous username, outlook doesn't have record of my old user profiles either. And a few other things. Still working at it - any more help would be appreciated.

Argh...getting really frustrated 🙁. Could someone please tell me if I just need move a few directories around? 'Cause it doesn't seem to be helping - there must be some registry commands or something that I need to input.

Not sure if this would help. But has anyone messed with the permission to the Doc&Settings folder??
