I really wouldn't grab a kit.

If you can throw out a budget, and a case, and your level of ability in modding it, people are here should be able to help :)

And by 'throw out' I mean 'let us know' not, "Throw out any notions of a budget, and get rid of a case.."

well i'd say 200 max for a water cooling ... depending on how much it is for all i could move it up or down probably. case i'm getting a Cool Master Centurion 5 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16811119079). I'm pritty sure i won't need to mod the case and i'd prefer not but we'll see i probaly can do it. Also i'd want it for CPU and maybe GPU (xfx 7800GT)

why do you not suggesat a kit?

someone else will probably chime in and say how great their budget kit is, but, IMHO you either go with a good WC setup (which includes the swiftech kits BTW) or just get top notch air cooling.

the PITA:benefit factor isn't there for budget WC when a TT big typhoon is as good as some of those budget WC kits

Agreed, high end air is as good as low end water. Do it right or don't waste your time. I gave up water cooling when upgraded to an Opteron cpu. They run so cool I just didn't see any reason to bother with water.

i don't want a BUDGE kit ... i just want a good watercooling KIT .. a good kit not a budget one... or did u mean all kits are not good? I just figure a kit is best for me personaly becuase well i'm nerw to WC and i would be lost if i didn't get a kit. I aded all my stuff up together and i should be able to pay more than 200 for a WC kit i want a good one not a budget one as i said before.

Eheim 1250 57@petsmart
Apogee CPU waterblock @40-50, depending on where you buy it
Maze4 GPU block @45 DD
6Ft. of Clearflex tubing @~7 bucks, wherever
BlackIceII Pro Radiator @35 @ DD
Fits the budget.

Edit:

Kits in general are overpriced, and (with 1-2 exceptions) underperform.

Those 1-2 exceptions overcharge.

Yes, do that. OCZ also said that if enough people buy them, they might go down to 200. :)

Problem being everyone will hold off on buying one.

Then it never goes down.

I've been looking @ WC stuff and decided I would get the following if I took the plunge:

Blocks - Swiftech Apogee Extreme CPU + MCW60 GPU + 8 copper BGA sinks - $89.95 @ Jab-Tech
Pump - Swiftech MCP655 adjustable - $79.95 @ Jab-Tech
Radiator - Swiftech MCR-220 dual 120mm - $36 @ Jab-Tech
Fans - Yate Loon D12SL-12 * 2 - $11.90 @ Jab-Tech
Tubing - 6' of ClearFLEX 60 1/2" ID 5/8" OD - $5.10 @ Jab-Tech
Clamps - 12 mini hose clamps - $4.32 @ Sidewinder
Reservoir - Swiftech MCRES-MICRO - $14.95 @ Sidewinder
Water Treatment - Swiftech HydrX - $3.29 @ Sidewinder

5% off promo code for Jab-Tech (Google for it, I don't think we can post those here) = $11.14 discount

$248.87 Shipped UPS Ground from Jab and USPS Priority from Sidewinder.

Thanks @ Zebo for calling my attention to the Swiftech block deal @ Jab-Tech. Nice combo.

Radiator would be hung out the back of my P160. I'd prefer not to carve up the top to put the radiator there. Modding would be limited to a couple 5/8" or so holes in the back above the 120mm exhaust port, the same could probably be done on a Centurion.

What I listed is essentially the Swiftech Apex Ultra H20-220 kit, minus the rear radiator bracket, and adding a GPU kit. For about the same price as the kit after shipping. I don't understand the logic behind those kits either.

Hey i'm new to water cooling and am trying to best sitauation for me. Can anyone tell me which water cooling system here is beter and also which would be easier to set up... i'm using a Cooler Master Centurion 5 case and i'd prefer not to slice and dice my case.

also why does one have copper sinks while the other doesn't? What are they for. and why does another have hose clamps while the other doesn't?

how much of a difference of a WC setup that has 2 120's to 1 120 would it be? cause if i get a radiator for 1 120mm fan i could put it in the back were my 120 fan-mount is or would it just be pointless then?

Like it a lot, but the peformance of the MCW60 is as yet unknown; but at the price, no question about it.

Also, he's using a mid-tower case--I don't think it would hang out the back of the case.
In addition, if you mount it under the top of the case (In a 5.25 bay)the only holes necessary will be a for fans, so 2x120mm holes, of he can mount the entire thing externally.

Also reccomend against a reservoir--to much of a pain, can break too easily, leak too easily...etc.
Really not worth it, IMO.

Thanks for the feedback on the kit... I went ahead and ordered it already, so the reservoir is a-comin' :p if it's more trouble than it's worth for me, I can always eliminate it. But I'd like to try working with one and see.

The MCW60 is just a larger version of the MCW55. 62mm square instead of 50mm. Other than that, it's basically the same design as the 55, and it comes with the 8 pack of ramsinks. Unlikely to do any worse then the 55, I'd reckon.

Lots of people over at XS seem to have scorn for the Apogee, it looks like Swiftech's marketing has much to do with that. It's really not an "extreme" sort of block, but some folks there feel that Swiftech has been pimping it as one. *shrugs* It seems to be pretty good from a price/performance standpoint, and I'm not looking to enter my machine into the Overclocking Olympics. I'm after a Quieter Cool and a fun new project; if I get more MHz out of my machine without a lot more stress as a result, that'll be gravy.

Anyway, sorry if this is turning into a hijack of the OP's thread. I thought it would make more sense to chime in here, than make another almost identical thread.

Edit: Yeah the OP's case may be a little short for a rear-hanging dual 120 radiator. Depends on how much the radiator blocks when it's attached, the Centurion is 18.9" high and I'm not sure where its rear 120mm hole falls within that span. I'm in a P160 which is about 20" high, and I've done measurements for the rad mounting... it'll do what I want it to. I've cut fan holes into cases before in the past, but I want to carve up this case as little as possible - I rather like it @ stock, and it may house a non-WC system for someone else some day.

I'm just nervous (with wtaer cooling) about the radiator and were i'm going to put it considering the fans (2x120's) have to be able to blow air out i'm using a Cooler master centurion 5 case mid-tower w/ window ... any ideas or maybe a good mid-tower that i can use that will be easier for this ... :-/

I just don't see how my centurion without ripping up stuff on the case will make watercooling work... ideas?

they don't have to blow air out, it is more important to have nice cool room air for your rad

many people, myself included draw air into their case through the rad

mine is mounted on the floor of my case (LL V2000) drawing air in

the air from the rad is not warm enough to cause any issues, but warm case air drawn through a rad will affect performance

TrevorRC siad i could mount it on top of my case next to my PSU but i don't see how it would work.. any ideas? (he's offline so i thought i'd ask here for a answer before then so i don't waste his time or nothin')
