Hi everybody!

I was recently given a washer and dryer set and the only thing that is wrong with either is that the washer's water pump needs to be replaced. Supposedly it costs about $200-$250 to have done by a repair man, but this sounds like it isn't too difficult of a job. Is this a correct assumption? Can the average decently mechanically inclined person replace a water pump in a washing machine? The set is relatively new (less than 5 years) but is out of warranty and ...hey...it was free...

Thanks for any info.

They're pretty simple to fix, one of the best tools I've bought for appliance reapir is a set of nut drivers, much handier than using a socket set to take apart all the sheet metal.

Do a google search for washer repair how to's...

If it cost 200-250 to fix then DON'T BUY THE PART FIRST, and Don't pay to have it fixed.

First, try and take the old one off without doing any damage. If that works out then look inside and ask yourself, CAN I PUT ONE BACK IN WITHOUT DAMAGING IT OR THE WASHER?

If the answer is yes then take the old part and get a new one, If it is NO, or you can't get the old one out. Then just but a new washer with a warrenty. $250-300 should get a pretty good one, with a warrenty and have all new parts :)
