Being a complete newbie to networking, I hope someone can shed some light on my problems. Basically, I want to set up a simple peer2peer network and have installed Kingston 10/100 cards in my machines (although they are identified as LNE100TX Fast Ethernet Adapters and I haven't bothered changing this) + connected them with a cable. Thing is, although the network icon comes up in the systray, indicating that the network is up and running, I am unable to access or even find the second computer.

When I check "Computers near me", only the current computer shows up and having no experience with this whole thing, I can't figure out what's wrong. Most likely I've forgotten or overseen something trivial, byt hey - everything's hard if you don't know how to do it....right? Anyway, I'd be grateful if someone would take the time to provide some suggestions, or maybe point me to a step-by-step set-up document somewhere!!

you need to assign IP, DOMAIN for example: computer would be 192.168.0.1 and domain for both computer should be the same however you want it to be. For the second computer IP should be 192.168.0.2 submask for both computer should be 255.255.255.0. Enter all this you network card by right click on "My Network Places" -> "Properties" -> right click on the network card "Properties" then click on tcp-ip -> properties.
