I'm on DSL and have a router. I'm not sure what my IP address is. Would I use the IP address of my router to set this up? Or not, how do I find out my exact IP addy? Also, is it possible to control anothers computer over a VPN? (with there knowledge of course) without special software? Does XP's remote connection do this?

If the computer you want to do this on is in the DMZ of the router, you'd use the computer's own IP to connect. If your computer is behind the router's firewall, you'd need to forward the VPN PPTP traffic (protocol 47) to the internal IP of the computer. If you get this to work, then Remote Desktop will work correctly over the VPN link. Hope this helps.

you can log into your router to find your IP address. what kind of router is it? go to internet explorer and put in the login IP address of the router. 192.168.X.X or something similar. shoulda come with your router manual. i have 2 SMC barricades, different models slightly.... both have different logins.
