Need help with video card crashing after a few minutes

My friend in my clan just got a 9700pro (used,) upgrading from an FX5200.

Everytime he tries to play a game it will crash after a few minutes of playing and sometimes his pc reboots with a message saying the system recovered from a serious crash and the videocard is stuck in a loop. 🙁 Any ideas about this? Is it the card or something else?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

trying removing the drivers and installing them again. I assume you downloaded the latest ones from ati right?

I talked to him just now and he says he installed the drivers from the disc and then installed the newest ones from ATI... he should skip the drivers disc completely, right?

No wonder he's crashing - those drivers from the disk are OLD! Get him to uninstall the ATI drivers from the control panel (even with the new ones in there) and then run Driver Cleaner as DTBH said. Then, install the new 4.11 official drivers from ATI's site.
