Need help with video cable

I have a laptop with a vga connection and would like to hook it up to my tube type tv that has a compentent hook up. Will this item from newegg work?

Or do I need break out box to convert the signal? I figure I do not because if the tv has the hookup then it be be able to convert the signal.

That won't work, you need an active converter circuit (box). Well, it would work if your laptop has a circuit built in to convert the signal itself, but that would be unusual AFAIK. The TV isn't going to have a circuit that can do it, has to happen at the other end.

Maybe just buy a new hdtv.

Even if you output the video, you need sound also.

Never used anything like this. They say you lose some signal quality. Anytime youhave a conversion there is a possibility of signal loss.
