ok so i'm planning to buy a xbox 360, and a tv tuner, and maybe another 19"-21" widescreen monitor, what i wanted to know is:

1) is it possible to have two monitors running at the same time and have one app displayed on ONLY ONE of the monitors, while the other is free to use for other apps?

2) what tv tuner card is the best for watching tv on a pc and plugging a xbox 360 into it? If i did plug a xbox360 into a tv tuner card would i get the "HD" resolutions? would it at least look like its running on a hdtv?

1) Why not? It's just another chunk of screen area. You aren't limited to one app per monitor now, are you? :p

2) None - get the Xbox360 VGA cable and plug it directly into the monitor. A TV tuner will introduce lag, compression artifacts, and unless you shell out for an HD tuner with component-in, negate your ability to receive anything over a 480i signal. Plug your computer in over DVI (you were planning to do that anyways, right?) and just switch between the two signals.

ok that sounds like one option and a good one,

what i wanted to do also was to get rid of the current tv i have in my room (its a small tv something like 13-15 inches), i wanted to get like a 19inch to 21inch lcd and replace it as a tv, by using a tv tuner....so basically if i did buy a second monitor i can plug that into my comp (i have a 6800gt card), but into the vga port (since the dvi port will be used for regular pc use), and then use a vga to dvi connector converter for the 360 to the monitor would this work ?

I'm not quite sure what you're saying.

The only thing I'm concerned about is your plan for the DVI/VGA converter.

Those only work one way, you can get VGA from DVI-I. You can't go from VGA and turn it into DVI. I'm not sure if that was part of your plan at all, but I wanted to let you know about that.

So what I think I'm hearing is that you have a 6800gt with one DVI and one VGA output.

You have a computer that you're going to hook up via DVI to the monitor

You're going to put a tv-tuner in the computer

You're going to have your 360 with VGA output.

You want to get a second monitor

Assuming I got that right, it seems like you should plug the 360 into one of the monitors via VGA. Your comptuer should be hooked up to both monitors, one via DVI (the same on the 360 is plugged into) and the other via VGA.

If your monitor that has the computer and 360 connected to it has a button to select between analog and digital input, all you'll have to do to switch between your computer and 360 on that monitor is hit the selection button.

With your TV tuner software, you should be able to select where that gets displayed, so that could be on the second monitor.

I don't know if I'm understanding what you want to do exactly though.

I think the only drawback to this is that the monitor that you connect via DVI to the computer is going to have to be the same monitor the 360 is connected to because you can't change the 360's VGA output to DVI with that adapter.

That is an adapter for taking a DVI-I connection and changing it into VGA.

DVI-I carries the DVI-D signal and analog as well.

If you come from VGA originally, you can't get DVI-D from that. If you plug into your monitor's DVI-D input, you will not get a signal.
