need help with system standby problems in WinME :(

It seems there's a lot of talk on Usenet about WinME and it's apparent inability to put many systems into standby mode (on my notebook, it all but powers down, and requires a hard reboot to come back to life). Anyone aware of a workaround for this problem (or have any ideas about one)? In particular, I'm trying to get WinME to work with my Vaio 505-JE. This will be my second installation of WinME, and soon to be my second uninstallation by the looks of it. :/
