Hi guys,
Before I start my system is:
i5 760 @ 3.8
Gigabyte GA-P55A-UD3
G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) 1600Mhz
Corsair CMPSU-650HX 650W ATX Modular PSU
Gainward GTX 570
1TB Western Digital Black Caviar (Two partitions, 1:Win7 & 2:Storage)
Antec 300 Case
I have finally bought an SSD! Following on from this thread I made: http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2168538
I bought an Intel 320 160GB SSD. I am very happy with the choice! I made sure it was the latest version with the latest 3.62 firmware.
My port setup at the moment is
Port 0: DVD Drive
Port 1: HDD
Should my steps be:
1) Unplug my HDD (should I unplug the SATA cable AND the power cable?)
2) Plug my DVD drive in to Port 1
3) Plug my SSD in to Port 0
4) Make sure it is set to AHCI in the BIOS
5) Install Win7 on to my SSD without formatting it.
6) Load Win7, just leave every setting as is, as Win7 changes the necessary settings because it knows it is a SSD.
7) ...double check disk defragmenter is off!
8) Install all motherboard chipset drivers and Intel Rapid Storage Technology
9) Install Intel SSD Toolbox
10) Activate Windows. Do I need to deactivate it before Step 1? Is that even possible?! Or will it let me activate it since it is only one hardware change?
11) Plug my HDD in to Port 2
Done!
Is it ok to leave my old Windows partition on my HDD? As long as I make the boot order in the BIOS set to the SSD first. Will that cause any problems? That way in case I left something on my old Win7 HDD partition, I can easily grab it.
Thanks in advance
Daniel
