Got this drive from a friend of mine without drivers.. Apparently it works just fine in ME, but I can't for the life of me make it work in win98se... it just shows up as a regular drive. Anyone have any experience with these?

Shows up as a regular drive?? That means Windows 98 recognizes a drive is there ...
in Device Manager, do you mean it says ATAPI CDROM (generic) or Sony something ...

cause I believe if Windows 98 recognizes that a drive is there, you can use it just fine... all you need is that your burner software recognizes the drive as a cd writer .. then the burner software will issue the correct commands and other stuff to the cd writer so that you can burn cd's ...
