I have an older AM2 motherboard that only supports 8GB of RAM across 2 DIMMs. Running a Phenom 9750 with 2GB DDR2 800 at the moment.
I have two DIMMs. I've seen 4GB sticks rated at 800 MHz, but my motherboard supports DDR2 1066. Is it realistic to clock any of the 400 MHz sticks available up to 533 MHz by loosening the timings, or should I just settle for 400 MHz RAM?
Perhaps I should go for 2x2GB at 533 MHz? I'm not trying to make my PC a gaming system or anything; I'd just like to keep it a capable "general use" computer for as long as possible.
