Need help with Siemens SX56 Pocket PC Phone

ive got a Siemens SX56 pocket pc phone with a 256mb SD card. The card has about 200mb of garbled code on it, which shows to be system files that I cannot access. Ive tried formatting the card while inside the phone with no success. Keep getting the error message "unable to format, disk is write protected"

Any ideas on how to get around this? Is the disk hosed?
I really appreciate any help that can be given.
