Motherboard will not post without shorting the cmos... after reboot of any kind computer wont post and you have to short cmos again... no video and no beeps however all fans power on... i have tried 3 different video cards one being pci with no change in results... taken the motherboard out of case and tried with no change as well... Have changed power supply to 400watt antec with no change in results? I have gone into bios and set agp to 2x with the same results as well? Upgraded the bios with no change... Please help if you have any suggestions...

Thank you

When you say that you need to "short" the cmos do you mean that you have to clear the cmos? Have you tried to set the cmos settings to default? Have you overclocked the cpu? You could try and pull everything out/disconnect except the videocard, hard drive, memory and cpu. Then turn the computer on and see if you get a post. Just a few suggestions in case you haven't tried them. Let me know what you find out. I am not familiar with that particular model mobo so I am not sure if there is a motherboard issue or not. Good luck.

Nope no usb mouse or keyboard... yes when I say shorting the cmos I mean clearing it... I have to do that to get it to show any video then after going to the bios setup screen or hitting F1 to continue to load it works till you restart or exit the bios screen... have pulled everything out of the case and tried booting with just video and memory... tried pci and agp video and I?m still getting nothing after restarts... I have my rma number so I?m shipping this one back and hoping for better luck on the next board!!!

And no overclocking on the cpu... have tried every setting under the sun in bios...

Sounds like you have tried everything possible. I would return it as well, definitely a motherboard hardware problem. I am pretty sure the next motherboard wil work fine. I believe I read a review about that motherboard some time back, if it is the one I'm thinking about then it is a good (supposed to be) motherboard.

When it does boot, does everything boot OK? Memory test passes? Do you get to the Windows splash screen? Will it boot to Windows desktop?

It does sound like a mobo issue...but have you tried using only one stick of memory? Using a different stick of memory?

If it's any consolation, i have this board and have zero probs w/it. Runs like a champ. Good luck. :)

I just bought this same MB and am in the process of RMAing it. I had similar problems with it not POSTing.

The reason I am responding is because I did have a USB mouse hooked up to when it started failing to POST the second time. How would USB affect it?

Clearing CMOS didnt help me the second time. The first time I had a PS/2 mouse when it failed to POST. I ended up switching memory around to get it to boot that time.

THe second time it wouldnt POST nothing helped. I checked the 2 sticks of crucial with a memory testing program from DOS and it passed all tests(did the test before it finaly died).

now i am waiting on newegg to aprove my RMA. I hope they will let me switch it to the Iwill. A non VIA may be worth a try.
