i just started working here in sept and am still learning the ropes...i do desktop support for a medical company btw. most companies ive worked for i was always called into the office and the manager would give me my review. well here they make us write our own, something ive never done before but am told its becoming increasing more common. they do reviews every december which is why im doing one now. there are 2 questions im havign trouble with...

one is reviewing the progress ive made toward achieving my goals for the last year period. i need to be specific as possible and provide examples. another asks for accomplishments ive made during the past year. These accomplishments may be related to your involvement in a performance improvement team, customer service events for which you are particularly proud, a new or revised means of accomplishing a task, etc.

all i can really say at this point is learning how the systems work, what they're used for, developing relations with co-workers. dont know what else to put...? i need to throw some fluff in there but cant think of any! at next review this wont be a problem, but since i havent been there too long to know much of anything im having a hard time coming up with stuff.

any help would be appreciated.

My suggestion is write it like you would write a resume or cover letter. Figure out what you've done that will look good on the review, and spin it so that it fits the question.

I've never had to do something like this though, so take what I've said with a grain of salt (or just consider it a bump).

since you've only been there for 3 months, it would probably be a good idea to not BS and just stick with a short and concise response. the best review is usually an honest one - just say that you've been there for a short time but you've made excellent progress in developing <skill #1> and learning <skill #2> and that you are eager to learn more about your job.

Be sure to emphasize how the jackass managers are doing it all wrong and if only they'd listen to your ideas that this crappy company might just have a chance at surviving but you won't be around to see it because this is only temporary until you land that dream job at the competition and these losers think you're in it for the long haul.

I don't see much purpose in self reviews, it's like a mindgame of superiors. Because an employee has nothing to win but much to lose, if he remarkably over- OR underevaluates his performance. So if there are any bosses reading this: What's the purpose of these or is it just another useless corporate culture thing? (And if you recieve self performance reviews at work, after what do you look?)

You're just given the chance to grade yourself, what would you do? Of course give your highest marks, unless otherwise disagreed. Three months, you're learning. Don't just put "I'm still a noob", use buzz words like "excel", "improving", add in something with "operational standards", kick it up a notch and BAM!

Don't promise too much on what you will do on the next half year, pace yourself accordingly.

don't praise yourself more than you are worth, or you will just seem like a lying *** licker.
