Need help with Sata.

Yea, I would like to go sata for my next build, but I am confused. When I go with a Sata1 mobo, I click the manufacture's website, and says SataII. When I click a sataII mobo, it says it accepts Sata3.0. Yet some do not accept Sata3.0. I would like to have a regular sata HDD. So my question is will Sata2 host Sata1 HDDs?

They are backward compatible. In otherwords, if you get a SATAII board, you can still put a SATA drive in it. If you get a SATAII drive, you can still put it in a SATA motherboard. Just depends on which way you want to go. I believe the actual term for the new SATA is SATA 3.0, I think it is all a little confusing because SATAII doesn't actually mean you will get the 3.0 transfer rate........someone clarify.

SATA is SATA also referred as SATA 1 / SATA 2 is what everyone expected would be the industry term for next generation SATA specification but the HDD industry decided to change the official name to = SATA 3G

SATA 3G name was decided fairly late in the game so many websites (including some HDD manufacturers) will refer to SATA 3G as both SATA 2 (what they thought it was gonna be called) and SATA 3G and hence confusion but the correct "official industry term" is SATA 3G.
