Need help with recalling a board game

When I was between 9 and 12, a friend of mine had a board game that had plastic green and tan (IIRC) tanks. I don't recall much about the gameboard itself, other than I believe it was stratego-like. Anyone know the game I'm thinking of?

On a side note, the friend moved when we were in 6th grade. Several months later, I was watching the local evening news with my folks and found out his mom went psycho and killed him and his older brother. One of those haunting memories in life.

Found it! ooh, might bid on it too.

I'm going to guess most of us don't know how old you are, so a more defined time span might help ;)

In what years were you between 9 and 12 years old? If you provide that info, I'll post your question on Boardgamegeek.com for you... they're usually pretty fast at this stuff. Or you could register and post it yourself.

Blocked at work. Will take a look at it at home.

There was also a paper and pen game I used to play by myself back then. WWII related. Basically, you had to use the rules book on each turn. Focused primarily on planes. Wonder what that was called.......

May have found the plane game as well.

True, but it doesn't have huge tanks like Tank War has. :D Plus, A&A is a little too indepth for my sons.

Memoir 44 is worth looking at. It's much less complex than A&A, and it's a very good game. It's recommended for ages 8 and up. It also has cool tank miniatures (lots of them).

Check it out when you get home:

Interesting. There are heck of a lot of expansion packs, as well.

There are. You can get a lot of play out of the game without them though. On their website they have about 30 official scenarios that require no expansion packs. It's a modular game system, so you can use the pieces that come with to design various maps. They also have hundreds of player-created scenarios that you can play.

The scenarios are intentionally unabalanced, because they are intended to represent historical battles that weren't balanced. What you're supposed to do is play a scenario, then switch sides and play it again, and whoever had the highest combined score "wins."

I remember Tank Battle

My Dziadziu and I played it when I was little (early 90s). I learned all of my basics of strategy from games like that.

I miss those times playing board games with a group of people (especially my Dziadziu). Nobody seems to want to play board games anymore (much less the pencil/paper ones...)

Best such game EVER

I LOVE buying old boardgames on ebay. Even if they are still produced today, I want the version I played with when I was younger (ie: RISK) So much more nostalgic.

This is the one I was thinking of when I read this thread. That game rocked!

Wow.. I have NEVER met another person that knows of it. Seriously the best "war" game ever.
