Need help with RAM settings

Hi,i am new to the forum as well as to overclocking.
i have some questions on ram that i want to ask.

i just got myself a pair of ocz reaper 8500 2x1gb, and i must say i am quite disappointed.
i have read a lot of reviews abt these rams are able to run at ddr1066 with good timings like 4-5-5-15 or even 4-4-415.unfortunately my pair was unable to hit those timing even with 2.4v.

so the question i have is that is it better to have them running at 1066with 5-5-5-15(stock timing)using a 5:4 divider or is it better to run them at 840with 4-4-412? i am having my e8500 at 420fsb with a 9.5multi which result in 4ghz with 1.224 vcore(cpu-z reading)

really hope that someone can give me some advice on this.

my setup is:
cpu:e8500
mobo:rampage formular
ramcz reaper 8500(2x1gb)
video card:2x4870 crossfire
Hdd:5x250gb hitachi 7200rpm(raid 0-software raid)
PSU:cooler master realpower pro M850
cpu cooler:thermalright ultra 120 extreme(push-pull setup with two noctua NF-P12 fan)
case:cooler master 690

I can say from my experience that running 1:1 600Mhz is significantly slower than running 3:5 1000Mhz with the same timings (not that hard to figure). And timings don't make that much of a difference really. I tested 900Mhz with 4-4-4-12 against 1000Mhz 5-5-5-15 and you can see from my sig which I'm running now. I also tested 720Mhz against the aforementioned 1:1 600Mhz (I'm running 300Mhz FSB) using the same timings and again the memory speed made a difference bigger than timings can overcome with the mysterious 1:1 ratio.

You could have quite easily tested this yourself right? It would've probably taken less time than making this thread

In regular applications it's not likely to make a lick of difference.

i am very new to overclocking so didnt really know how to test rams,therefore i posted here to ask.

Super Pi.

Those will show small differences.

And yes, DDR2-1066 will be faster.

Work on tightening tRD (Performance Level) once you get the primary timings figured out (5-5-5 or maybe they can do 5-5-4?)

i am have tested with everest and i got 8333mb/s as memory read results.i am having the rams at 1056 5-5-5.with tRD at 7.for some reasons i cant get it to boot at tRD 6,which i believe it should according to the formular here http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.aspx?i=3208&p=8.but anyway thanks for all the help

btw i am using 266 strap and my fsb is 422,ram at 1056. so i believe it is using a 5:4 divider.
please correct me if i am wrong.thanks

Calculating tRD isn't an exact science...it differs board to board.

You mainly need to try as low as you can...it'll stop POSTing once you go too low

tRD 6 is very low for a FSB of 422...not likely to happen.

If your mobo has an option for enabling pull-ins, etc. in conjunction with tRD, try that.
