Need for this motherboard

The MB currently has 2x32mb pc100 10ns modules in the board already but I'm really not sure what the maximum capacity per module that's accepted .
(max is 768mb & it has 4 slots ? ?) I have the original manual but it does'nt state memory/slot/capacity configuration .

All I need are 2x128mb dimms **G**

So my question is ............ Will 2x128mb "any old" pc100 work for this MB ? Or do I have to worry about what I select ?
I appreciate it .

This is for a friend that is too cheap to upgrade but has the money ! (He payed $165. to get a virus removed)
btw - He's running Win98 w/64mb ram & wonders why it's so SLOW ! Has Norton Anti Virus constantly running in the background & AOL which BOGS that sys. all to hell ! ! :|

that website says & shows only 3 slots.

and any ram you can pick up locally should work. if they only have pc133, that will run at 100 also.

I would suggest to avoid problems you use the 'low density' PC133/PC100 128Mbyte SDRAM modules with 64Mbit (16 chip) or 128Mbit (8 chip) DRAM technology that is i440BX compatible. Various Pricewatch vendors informally refer to this configuration as "16x64" or "industry standard" PC133/PC100 SDRAM, although neither term is really meaningful or consistent.

That is correct, I've had many older systems that don't understand high-density chips well. A really old m/b won't see it at all, whereas most will only see half of it, i.e. a 256Mb DIMM will post as 128Mb.

Generally speaking, low density has chips on both sides of the DIMM.

JonnyBlaze --- I just double checked & you're correct , only 3 slots :) (could've swore I saw 4 on the board)
So 256x3 = 768

Thanks for the info guys :)

Going to post a WTB in the Trade forum for the 2x128 pc100 dimms now .

MVP3 can do "16x8" geometry 128-MBit SDRAM. So single-sided eight-chip 128-MByte DIMMs or double-sided 16-chip 256-MByte DIMMs that use this technology will work ... if the board's BIOS isn't too old to know about these.

This happens to be the same limit as for Intel's 440BX and i810 chipsets, so asking for "BX compatible" stuff might actually yield something useful from a salesperson that gives you the blank stare when asked for "16x8".

PC100 or PC133 doesn't matter btw, this rating just tells you the maximum speed for the DIMM. There is no lower limit.

I can just see someone asking one of the drones at Fry's for "BX compatible" memory. So sad it's funny.

Ya, I expect you'd see sparks come out of his neck as he melted down. Those guys need one hell of an overclock, just to come up to speed!
