looking for a new psu for my new build i am doing. 5800x and a 3080 with an aio cooler. anyways id like it to be 850w to be well safe. ive looked at the evga ga series 850, not sure everyones take on the GA model though. i also looked at the nzxt c850 but not sure of its quality and reliability for a system like this. any recommendations? thanks

At least as of 18 months ago 750 & 850 watt power supplies were more or less the same cost. Assuming it is true today don’t listen to people who say that is too much power.
Tariffs have been placed on power supplies and I know this has made them more expensive by around $20.
I don’t have anything useful to say about your choices however I can say I am very happy with my Seasonic 850. Nice and heavy for what it is, feels real solid, great warranty, and Seasonic gets great reviews.
There is a rebranded version that I cannot remember the name but I know those are basically the same. The one I am talking about have some way of linking two power supplies together.
Seasonic makes all sorts of rebranded power supplies. I think most are real good.

Corsair is also a solid choice although I would avoid the "white" VS series.... even the CX/Bronze series is fine though and can be had for approx $100 for the 750 watt. (this is what I have currently)

In addition Superflower makes some good stuff.... just snagged an 850 watt modular (Bronze) on Amazon for $91 shipped on sale.

Having said that however, I have the identical setup and power-draw spikes at +/- 700 watts (per both Kill-A-Watt at the wall & APC Powerchute software) when gaming/under heavy GPU load so I would strongly suggest going for the 850 watt model.

EDIT: Don't make the common mistake of confusing any given units "80+" rating with being a promise of high quality. All things being equal, yes a Gold or Platinum rated model will usually perform better than a Bronze, BUT there are crappy Titanium etc PSU's out there, as well as companies that lie about specs.

Unfortunately it looks like anything over 750 watts with high-efficiency is getting jacked up in price.

I'm sure it's at least partially part of the overall pandemic-related shortages we've all become accustomed to, BUT people running into power problems with the 3080/3080ti/3090 spikes may be a factor as well.

850 watts = the minimum with a modern system and high-end GPU IMO if like me you prefer to have a buffer-zone.... 1000 would be better still but miners are snapping them up.
