Need help with printer sharing

OK, every time my wife needs to print something she switches to my computer. Slightly annoying. I want to share my Brother HL1440.

I was hoping for a magic wireless solution that would allow her to share the printer but not my computer. Is there a black box that I can hook up to her computer and the printer that would let her print from her computer without going through mine?

thanks

Do u have a wirless network? If so, then this is what u want:

wireless

If you have a wired network, u nee this:

wired

If you have no network at all then u are in trouble.

On Printer Servers.

They use to make Cable/DSL routers with parallel port Printer Server.

Since prices rock bottomed they save on eliminating the feature.

Few the older model are still available, but they are more expensive than the Current "Plastic Boxes".

Example: SMC 7004ABR Barricade? 4-Port Broadband Router w/Print Server.

You can go with USB but then you have to pay premium for special printer USB to Ethernet adapter.

Example: IO-Gear USB Print Server.]http://www.iogear.com/products/product.php?Item=GPSU01[/L][/L]

If you have a Wireless Cable/Router, there is a USB Solution.

Link: D- Link DP-311U is a wireless print server with one USB port.

Of course there is! 😉
  • How much money do you want to spend?
  • Does either machine currently have a NIC (Ethernet card)?
  • Wired or wireless?
  • Are both PCs in the same room with the printer?
  • Do you forsee the possibility of adding a third PC that would need to print (anytime in the future)?

If the printer is a parallel connection, you can use something like the Netgear PS111W print server, it has a wireless card slot to give it wireless capability. If it's a USB printer, the only USB print server I've had experience with is the IO-Gear one, it works great but it's a wired solution. Of course, if you can run a wire from your router/switch/hub to the print server, you don't need a wireless solution, she can still share it from a wireless workstation.
