I have an Abit BH6, version 1.0x. I flashed the bios yesterday and purchased a PIII 600, 100Mhz FSB CPU to replace my PII 350Mhz CPU. The slot 1 PIII is not the same designe as the PII. The pins match up,but the locking system will not secure the CPU. I know that Intel has a few different designes for the PIII and am wondering if I was sold a non slot 1, however this one is very close to the shape of my PII.

The CPU did not come with a fan, the one I bought for it is really cheap. Any suggestions on a good quality fan?

This is an OEM CPU, I read somewhere that intel has a site where you can verify the authentisity of a PIII. I could not locate it. Also, I would like to get one of those "PIII inside" stickers. Anyone know how or have one to spare/sell.

Finally..., I would love to hear from anyone with a similar system and has had good succes overclocking a PIII 600.

All help appreciated.

System: ABIT BH6, with BH6.SS and Award BIOS update. PIII 600Mhz slot 1 (?) CPU. 256 MB PC 100 SDRAM. Viper 770 32MB, X2 AGP vidio card. Creative Live Value sound card.

I bought a retail 600E for my BH6 a year ago and I "made it fit" by coercing it into the slot even though the retention mechanism is different.

The best it ever ran was 6x112. Anything higher was unstable, unless I used a PCI video card.

It was a nice upgrade from my PII 400 that it replaced.

Three coolers come to mind, the Gorb(cheap good cooling), Alpha P3125(HUGE,expensive,great cooling) or the Global Win VOS32(HUGE,cheaper than Alpha, near Alpha cooling) plenty of choices. As for retaining brackets most of the online retailers can get you the right bracket. With the Gorb you should be all right with the one you have. My "slow" system is a PIII600e on a BX6R2 running at 133 FSB, boots up as a PIII800eb. My Voodoo3 3K didn't have any problems with the over spec AGP speed, and the new 3D Prophet II MX hasn't complained either. (Voodoo's in the new system) Only problem you might have is the ram, if it's good PC100 it should make it to 133, might have to slow it down to CAS 3 though. HTH
