Need help with picking IT topic to discuss..

For one of the classes I am taking, I need to pick an IT topic and write a paper on it. I've been stuck at choosing a topic right now. All the ones I can think of are kinda already a cliche by now. So, I am turning to you guys for some suggestions for a good topic.. something fresh. I just need a little push to keep the ball rolling. Any links to information regarding the topics would be helpful too. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

Are we talking specific technologies, or just general IT principals?

An interesting, and difficult technology would be nano-technology and atomic computing.
