Need Help with PC build.

Mr Pants

Looking to build new PC for under $750. Just wondering if anybody can give me some good builds.

It will be used for pretty much gaming only. Looking to be able to run Age of Conan when it is released. Without headaches.

USA purchasing

Am a fan of nVidia. And I hate MSI.

Have an LCD allready. Mouse, keyboard, speakers, and the Case I will also use from old PC.

I have searched some threads. I havent found exactly what I am looking for yet. So I thought I would try and get better results asking myself. I will still be checking other threads though.

I do not plan on overclocking.

Unsure if I will be purchasing Vista just yet. If you can get a good build in at that price with Vista. Great!! If not, that is ok also.

Since there have been a number of $700-800 build threads recently but they don't seem to meet your needs, can you be more specific about what you are looking for? Seen any parts that you think you want to use, even if the whole build doesn't appeal to you or isn't in your price range?

DSF... you're being rather nice. I'll just come out and say it: Mr Pants don't be lazy, search and find a similar build that has been discussed (among the 50+ that have been discussed in the last month) and start from there. No one is going to do your homework for you. Well, maybe someone will, but you should meet them halfway at least.

Very Understandable, just one thing though. When I did say I would keep looking. I wasnt lying.

But still, I understand your points.

I believe you.

Let me put it this way. MarcVenice, Roguestar, chinaman and I (along with others of course) post pretty regularly here. We generally post fairly similar recommendations, and since those recommendations we've made in other threads apparently aren't what you're looking for, I'm just suggesting that you be more specific about what you want so we can help you better.

Allright, let me try this.

MB: Intel P35. I think I have seen this in alot of builds. But I am unsure of what Manf most people recommend. Or other specs involved.

Video Card: I am kind of torn on this. Because it can eat up alot of the cost. When there are still very cheap cards that can do the trick. I like EVGA from what I have researched about them. And I believe the 8600 series would probably do the trick for me. But I am not sure about GT, GTS, or other specs like Memory size, and how important it is.

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16819115030 seemed pretty decent to me.

Memory: 2 or 4G of DDR2 800 is good with me. Am not to concerned about manf on this atm.

Hard Drive: This is something that I am not overly concerned about. I could probably use the 80G off my old pc and be happy. Gaming is all I really do.

Power Supply: This I am unaware of what to do. I have heard not to go with Thermal Take. But not who I should go with. I imagine with an 8600 or possibly and 8800 I would need 600W+?

Will keep searching and reposting with more results.

Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820227252

Power Supply: Again, I really do not know what is needed here. And I don't want to cut it close and go low.

If anyone knows similar products to these, that can run the same or better for better prices. Please let me know. Also, am still good to get a copy of Vista at this point and be dang close to price range. Havent searched other sites for better prices yet. Just getting parts down.

Actually, I like my case alot. $110 on case/PS i think might be better spent somewhere else.

I pick that one because it has the Earthwatts 500w ps (made by Seasonic) in it which is a good solid PS, newegg sells it seperately for $54 I beleive, hey that would knock $56 buck off🙂
What ever you do don't get a cheap no name power supply, the extra $20-30 bucks for a quality PS is like getting insurance

Doesnt this Mboard run DDR2 1066? I assume that speed of ram is to expensive for the price on this rig. Also, I wasnt even aware you could run a different type than what it was listed for. Can you always go less but not higher?

It means it runs up to DDR2-1066. And because that's as high as they can say in terms of standards, it means it'll run anything DDR2 so long it's fast enough to match your processor's FSB.

Basically, DDR2-800 is faster than what you need anyway, so you've got a bit of headroom in terms of overclocking or changing the memory ratio to make the memory run faster.

E21XX series or E4500. I personally feel (though I don't have one) feel the E6XXX series in just at a bad price point. At around $170, I'd rather save myself close to $50 and get the E4500 or spend an extra $30 and get the E8400.

RAM is virtually always backwards compatible. Higher speed RAM can run at slower speeds than rated, and lower speeds RAM can run at higher speeds than rated, usually with a bit of tweaking. But the high speed RAM can only perform as fast as the rest of the computer will allow it too. And getting more RAM is almost always better than getting fast RAM, for a mainstream build.

Bad choice on the 8600GT video card. The 9600GT just came out, and several benchmarks have shown that it is quite a quality card at the $180 price range. It's almost comparable to the 8800GT 512 at around $220. Your other choice would be the Radoen 3870 at around $200.

Antec EARTHWATTS 380W should be suffice for the build. If you're uneasy, you could step up to a Corsair 450VX. Buy.com has a Corsair 550VX on sale for $60. http://dealnews.com/Power-Supp...e-shipping/214457.html
