I'm trying to upgrade my old pc into today's technology. I have bought an Asrock 4coredual-vtsa MB and one of those FAR Ultra cases (wizard?). The problem I am having is the labeling on the front panel power 1 plugs on the mb. there are 2 rows of pins, 4 on top and 5 on bottom. there is a label underneath PLED PWRBTN and then underneath that HDLED RESET. The cords coming from the case don't seem to match the pin configuration. Reset Switch has 2 holes, power LED has 3, power sw has 2 and HDD LED has 2. There is no documentation on the correct arrangement in the board's manual, and if i line them up the way the labels go it doesn't seem to make sense. Can someone shed some light on this? This is the first time I have ever attempted this.

That sounds about right on the pins and connectors. There should be some kind of picture in the Manual.

You might want to go the the Asrock Site and see if you can dig up some more info/pictures on this if the Manual is light on this.

I have built way too many pc's to believe that the motherboard manual does not document the correct pins for the header connections.

Svadas,
Go here http://download.asrock.com/manual/4CoreDual-VSTA.pdf and get this PDF file, better than the supplied manual and more info on the bios. This Asrock manual IS lacking with the detail necessary for a first time builder to easily understand what to do. Now with that said, some of us have built a few systems, and others have built many, this is his first..I had trouble on my first build many years ago, so I know where he is comeing from. Your new heatsink fan assembly will have 3 patches of grey colored, dry heatsink compound on it [ this stuff will melt the first time you fire up your sys. One patch of compound will be vertical about a half in wide, and 2 others half moon shaped, orient the vertical strip on to the cpu in the vertical plane as you look at the cpu and can read the info on it. The manual says to spray the heatsink with compound [ you don't have to do this step on your initial install ] as the compound is allready on the copper heatsink. If you remove the heatsink..then that is another story. Hope this helps..good luck on your first build. You might check this link out for more info on this board http://forums.anandtech.com/messageview...atid=29&threadid=1960908&enterthread=y

There's sometimes an issue with the 3-prong "Power On LED" connector that comes with cases. Many (most) motherboards no longer support the 3-pin configuration. Sometimes there's a secondary (optional) set of pins for that 3-pin connector. Sometimes not.

You may want to just cut the Power On LED connector into two pieces with a knife or cutter of some sort. Do it carefully and it won't hurt anything and will give you a lot more flexibility.
