In the AnandTech BH7 Review a retail P4 HSF was used with the 1.7M tested. I have run the same 1.7 P4M without a shim using the MCX4000, and have had no problems.

a shim will just add another layer of thermal resistance, my p41.4m kick along fine without one but as with THUGSROOK my board wont go higher than 225fsb
