Need help with Outlook

When I open Outlook, outlook.exe is using up 50mb to 60mb of ram, but when I look in Performance, the RAM usage keeps going up. It'll go from 160mb to over 500mb. I will need to end the outlook.exe process inorder for it to return back to 160mb. Does anyone know what is causing this? I ran virus and spyware scans but they didn't pick up anything. I also tried looking for updates but there are non. I'm running WinXP SP2 with Outlook 2002 SP3.
