I have a MSI K8N Neo4-f motherboard. I have bios ver 1.90. Where is the memory divider everyone is talking about? My cpu is a brand new AMD 3000+ Venice and Ram is 2 x 512 MB Corsair VS at 2.5 CAS

Also I am not sure I understand the way to find the max MEM

Heres what I did and the results.

I set HT to 2.5x, multi to 6.5x, RAM to 100 Mhz and increased HTT. It went upto 340 before it failed, so my max HTT was 320

I set multi to 9x, HT at 2.5x, RAM to 100 Mhz and increased HTT, it failed primetest95 at 280 Mhz, so my max cpu was 2400 Mhz

Now the third test I was not sure how the MAX MEM is found, I set multi to 6.5x, HT 2.5x, RAM to 200 Mhz, 2.5-4-3-7 and staarted right away at HTT 320. Ran memtest and it passed both tests 5 and 6. SO does this mean my max MEM is 320 Mhz??

in the example shown, they say MAX mem should be around 200-210 for Value RAM, so what am I doing wrong.

so if someone can explain how the max mem works and also where to find the memory divider in the bios, it would be most helpful.

Right now after much experimentatin, I am running at HTT300, HT2.5x, multi 8x, RAM was set to 100 Mhz but in the bios it says current DRAM frequency is 150 Mhz(half of HTT). I cant set the RAM speeds any higher than 100 or it wont boot.

With this setting I got my max 3dmark05 score of 7700 which is 1000 points more than what I got at default everything. Videocard is a BFG 7800 GT OC at 489/1.18.

If you are asking how to check for your maximum memory overclock, I beleive you must do the following:

Set your memory divider to 200mhz (or highest available). set your ht to 3x (default is 4x i beleive) and slowly increase your htt by 5, run memtest (about 3 passes) and if is successful increase by 5 and repeat. Once you reach a point where you receive errors, you can do one of 2 things. You can try lowering your htt or losening your ram timings. Once you are happy with the results, you will have your maximum memory overclock.

Hope this helps.

my default HT was 5x but at 3x it wasnt going real far max HTT I got was 250 Mhz, but when I set HT to 2.5x, I got upto 340 Mhz. So I am using HT2.5x. In the bios under dram settings, I have memory clock speed, is that the divider? It has values 100,133,166,200,216,233,250. Default was 200.

Ok I will try to explain this best way I can. your ht (5) multiplied by your htt (200) = 1000 ... This number *MUST* be below 1000. So if you want to increase your htt, you must decrease your ht. Change your Ht to 4 and leave it. (most likely you will not have to touch this again, if you lower it to 2.5, 2.5 x 240 = 600 fsb which is kind of weak) Now that you have your ht at 4, you test your cpu's maximum overclockability. To do this, lower your ram multiplier (250,200,166,133,100) to 100 and start increasing your htt and run tests until it becomes unstable. Once you have found your maximum htt this number will be your MAXIMUM CPU overclockability.

now for your ram.

Increase your multiplier to 250mhz, and lower your htt back to 200. Slowly increase your htt by 5 mhz at a time and run memtest86 to check if your ram is stable. Once you start becoming unstable, you will have found your maximum Ram Htt.

Now you must somehow combine these two numbers, either by using the lower value, or use a ram divider. Say your maximum cpu htt was 300 and your maximum ram was 240.. If you were to use a 4:5 divider and set your htt to 300.. it would work out perfectly.

damn with 4x HT it only went upto 230 HTT. So max is like 210. that sucks doesnt it???

You will need to lower your ht to 3, once your htt reaches 250 or higher (250x4=1000) now you say you got to 230, is that with your memory divider at 250??

You are running a 3000 chip right??? I just realized something.... I have the same chip and I was having some issues o/cing mine, and I didn't do what I posted above for you :) I think I just solved my problem by helping you :).. But ya.. your htt x ht should always remain lower than 1000... if you are having trouble reaching 230 I am assuming that is with a divider of 200 or more. Which is not bad..

Test your cpu ( while making sure not to exceed the 1000 mark, also I have read that increasing your agp/pci bus from 66 to 67 or 68 might help.. I am at work right now but once im done I will try this... All you have to remember is just max your cpu with low divider, max it with high divider and then choose a happy medium..

ok I have some work too will try the whole thing after I finish everything at work
