Need help with new Soundblaster Live Value

I just put in a soundblaster live value OEM to replace my unsupported monster sound mx300 in windows 2000. I installed the newest liveware 3.0 software for 2k and i am having some problems. For one thing, can i have both my headphones and speakers plugged into the sound card at the same time? The diagrams for each port are pretty vague and i don't have a manual. i tried plugging headphones into the different ports besides the speaker port and none of them worked. With my MX300, i was able to have my speakers plugged into the main speaker port, and my headphones plugged into the rear speaker port which is supposed to also be used for headphones. What do i do?

Also, when i try to use the microphone, it says my sound card does not support the featuers needed to record (it says this with netmeeting, sound recorder, etc.). What's up with that?

For using headphones and speakers at the same time, you'll need to get a y-adapter that'll allow you to plug both the headphones and speaker into the same port on the sound card. Your MX300 had a front channel port, and the other port was for rear or headphones. But the SoundBlaster Live! can only use the 2nd port for rear speakers. (I used to have an MX300 before getting a Live! back in February 1999, and I miss the ability to switch the purpose of the 2nd output port)
Anyway, what I do now is use the y-adapter to plug both the speaker and headphones into the front channel Live! port, and use an inline volume control (from Radio Shack) for the headphones so I can leave the main volume level loud for the speakers.

Thanks Possum. What about the microphone issue with Windows 2000? Anyone know why it would say my drivers don't support sound recording?
