Need help with new MoBo, Processor for older Desktop

Hello!

First of all im new on this forum so pleased to meet all of you!

I really need some help/suggestions for getting a new motherboard and processor. Im not that experienced with hardware and usually just change parts every 3 years or until some part stops working, making me check whats wrong >_< (or get help from my brother but hard now since we living in difference cities now).

So to the point! Few days ago my processor, a AMD Athlon x64 x2 5200+ Socket AM2 died (i think?).
Sorry i forgot to mention: when i was removing my processor it was stuck in the fan, i guess the cooling paste-thing kinda made them get stuck. So when i removed it it had bent some of the pins on the processor. Altho i did bend them back and i think all pins connected, the PC still wont boot.

So i checked around for a similar one but noticed that the price is almost the same or at least very close to a similar or a bit better processor of Socket AM3.
So since my motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-M56S-S3 is AM2, it is not compatible with the newer AM3 socket types.

So ive been searching around the web for a rather good, but not too expensive motherboard and processor. I dont really require too much power as i usually watch movies, games and such, but pretty much multitasking. Im trying to keep myself below 100$ for each component.

Ive been thinking about these so far:
MoBo:
MSI 770-G45 AM3 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130250"])
Processor:
AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0 GHz Socket AM3
(http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103681&cm_re=AMD_Athlon_II_X2_250-_-19-103-681-_-Product"])

What components i have right now (not planning to change for now unless necessary for MoBo, Processor):
Power supply unit:
Fortron ATX-400PNF
Power output 400W
Input volage 220-240V ~ 5A, 50Hz

Graphic card:
Leadtek PX8600 GT TDH 512 MB
(http://www.newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16814122033"])
RAM:
A-DATA DDR2 800 1GB pc8400. I think its the one in this link or something very similar:

*Although ive been watching a few of the Phenom CPUs too, but they tend to go over my budget.

Thanks in advance!

I would say that it's unlikely that the processor actually died unless you heavily overclocked it. It's more likely that the motherboard itself is dead.

The 770-G45 requires DDR3 memory, so you'd have to buy new RAM if you go that route. My recommendation is that you buy a new DDR2 AM2+/AM3 motherboard (like the ASUS M4A77D and try your CPU out in that. I'm willing to bet that it will work. If not, you needed to buy a new motherboard anyway, so it's not like you've lost anything.

Oh i see, i forgot to mention that the processor kinda got stuck in the fan, i guess because of the uhm... cooling paste thing. So when i removed it mightve either damaged the processor or motherboard?
Some pins on the processor were kinda bent but i fixed them and tried them on the motherboard again, seemed like all pins was connected but still didnt work.
I havent overclocked it anything by the way so now that u mentioned it, its prob the motherboard?
But true! either way im screwed so the best thing i could do is actually get a new motherboard as u said, and try the processor on it.

I cant seem to find ASUS M4A77D in stores where i live and it seems like newegg doesnt ship to Sweden. Im not so good when it comes to specs but i found this motherboards too: ASUS M4A785-M. It seems to support AM2/AM2+/AM3 too and uses DDR2
How are these compared to each other?

Thanks for such a fast reply!
