Need help with new lcd

I just picked up this monitor at Micro Center for $329.This thing is huge.Heres my question.Battlefield 2 will not launch now,it tries to but hangs or just goes to desktop.I tried changing resolution to the one I was playing on my old 19" crt but same thing is happening.I downloaded a driver from acer but there was nothing to install,it was a security catalog,ICC profile and setup information.Am I supposed to drag these files somewhere? The native resolution on this lcd is 1680 x 1050.I tried at other resolutions but BF2 still wont work.

Any Suggestions?

to install a monitor driver, you need a .inf file - assuming one came with the drivers you downloaded from acer, follow these steps to install it:

right click on your desktop > properties > settings tab > advanced button > monitor tab > properties button > driver tab > update driver button > Install from a list or specific location > Don't search. I will choose the driver to isntall > Have Disk... > browse to and select the .inf file > push ok

don't know if that'll fix the problems, but should install the driver.

If you had a CRT before, it sounds like BF2 is trying to set a refresh rate/res the LCD doesn't support.

I've had that problem when using my tower with monitors that don't support my 21" CRT's range of settings/refresh rates.

Thanks,that did install the driver.
I still cant get the game to work.I know BF2 doesn't support widescreen but it should still work.
Half-life 2 worked fine and looks incredible.

I'm not sure that installing the driver will help at all. If your monitor isn't compatible it's sort of like if your video card wasn't good enough, it just doesnt' work unless you buy a better one I think. By the way, $326 dollars isn't much for an LCD screen, especially as big as yours is. I paid $360 for my 17" and never had any problems. I first bought a larger, and cheaper one, like yours and loved it, but I had similar problems, not as much with not being able to play games, but it would make this load annoying buzzing sound, because the screen was so big the projection lightbulbs would hum and hurt my ears. When I bought my new LG monitor for a 5 inch downgrade and about a $50 dollar upgrade no more buzz and this thing works great. Just something to consider, it might just be what dug777 said that it doesn't supppor thte right rates. You might read up in the BFII manual and your LCD manual to see if they are compatible.

Make sure your shortcut looks something like this.

bf2.exe +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050

Invalid variable names will cause BF2 to crash.

I hope its compatable I play pretty much only bf2.My video card should be able to handle this easily.I know I should be able to play at a 4:3 resolution and it should just stretch it or have black bars on the screen.

Good info..thanks.

I've got my Acer coming tomorrow...I still plan on doing the bulk of my gaming on my 22" NEC FP2141 CRT, but I'm interested to see how the Acer stacks up. I'm not expecting much since it is lower end panel...but the value is incredible IMO.

sgtBaker-

How do you like the Acer? What are your first impressions?

Also, has anyone wall mounted one of these bad boys? It looks like it conforms to the VESA 100 standard, so I'm thinking of picking up a wall mount kit for it...especially since Acer's base looks meh at best.

Sweet...glad to hear you like it. I don't really have a MC nearby so I had to pay $17 shipping...but there is no sales tax here, so it was still pretty cheap at around $340 shipped.
