Folks:

Please, please..I need help...

I am trying to build new system. My config is as follows..

PantiumD CPU
intel 945 Chipset MOBO
2 GB memeory
2 SATA drive
1 DVD-RW
6000GT PCI-E card
Antec P180 Case (3 fans)
FSP400 PSU (350 W)

Everything connected. Power up and No boot...No Beep nothing. Replace PCI-E card, thought that might be bad...Still no boot. Monitor show no sign. I have no clue
Where to begain...

Looking on intel site..One thing I notice to check enough power? Is it enough powerful PSU? No additional power connection graphics card. Any other check/test I can do? I did couple times power ON/OFF...Should I reset anything?

Thanks,

shreeit

Which PD are you using? What graphics card are you using (never heard of a 6000 GT)? Your 350W power supply may be pushing it but I built a similar PC (PD, X800 SE, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB HDD) and it works fine with a 350W Antec PSU. Are the fans spinning?

I would say you are definitely under powered. I would think the system would boot with the CPU, one stick of Ram and the vid card which is what you need to try anyway at this point. Leave everything else disconnected.

Other things to check;

Motherboard is not shorting on the case. Check for extra standoffs. Check for EMI springs on the I/O shield poking into ports.

ALL power connectors connected to motherboard and vid card. (I know you mentioned the vid card).

You could have a bad stick of RAM. Try each one individually.

Reseat all components.

If need be, you can assemble and start the system outside of the case. No chance for a short that way.

Reset the CMOS following the instructions in the manual to the letter.

1. Which exact pentium-D are you using?
2. Your motherboard may need a bios update to support your CPU
3. A 350W psu is probably not enough for a power grubbing pentium-d, even if it is a good PSU like Fortron. How many amps on the 12v rail?

Make sure all your power connections are correct, 24pin ATX connector + 4pin 12v atx connector, and make sure your video card has the PCIe or molex connector connected if it has one. Make sure your CPU fan is plugged in to the correct fan header on the motherboard, as it may not boot if it's not detecting a CPU fan.

Try booting with the bare minimums. 1 stick of ram, cpu/heatsink and fan, video card. Disconnect the hard drives, dvd drive, any other PCI cards, etc.

Also, did you properly mount the motherboard on standoffs? Make sure there are no standoffs out of place, or loose screws under the motherboard that could short it out.

If booting with the bare minimums didn't work, remove the motherboard from the case, and put it on a non-conductive surface, and then try booting with the bare minimums again. You can use a screwdrive to touch together the 2 pins where the power switch connects, if the wires aren't long enough to reach with it outside of the case.

The CPU is Pentium D 820 ( 2.8 GHz, 800 FSB 2 MB L2 lache). The graphics card is nVidia Gforce 6600GT PCI-E and Sound is built in on MOBO. I thought if I am sort circuiting my board some place it wil noy start power at all. I can see all my fans, including CPU fan, my DVD-RW has power (I can opne and close it). Check and rechek for PCi-E card, 24 PINs power connection, and 4 pins connection. mya be reset CMOS or bigger PSU and next option...

Thanks,

xfx 6600gt agp

i've tried everything (i.e. reseating heatsink, vid card, disc hdd, burner, checking connections), but i still get no video feed. any help??

A short on your motherboard won't neccessarily keep it from turning on, it can do exactly what you describe as well. I don't know exactly what model your motherboard is, but you should check to see if it requires a bios update to support the pentium-d 820(although I think the 945chipset boards should all support it out of the box, but not 100% sure).

You'll have to be a lot more specific on the CPU and motherboard. There are 2.4ghz 400mhz, 533mhz, and 800mhz FSB northwoods, and there is a 533mhz FSB prescott, all 2.4's so need to know which one. Also need to know the exact model of your motherboard.
