Need help with new ASUS Mobo & P4

I was helping a friend build his PC last night. He purchased an Asus P4B533-E and Pentium 4 2.4GHz processor. We got everything installed, and the first time we booted up it went to the Windows 98 loading screen and then just hung there.

Now when we reboot it goes right to the BIOS where it displays an error message something to the following "During the last boot up your system hung for improper frequency combination"


I'm not sure what to do from here. Any help would be appreciated!!

what ram are you using?
what settings for the ram in bios?

He's using 256MB of Ram DDR 2100

In the BIOS the CPU External Frequency is set at 100Mhz

I'm trouble shooting with him on the phone so where should I have him look for the ram settings in the BIOS?

Can Win 98 run on a CPU faster then 2 GHz? or is that something diff?
