currently I'm in iraq using sat connection. The sat connection is hooked up to switch with 50 ports. now I'm using one of that port. From that port I'm using dlink router. When I hook up my laptop directly from switch, i can see other people's computer. But when i hook up to my router, i do not see other peoples computer.
how can i use router and see other people who is on network?
Thank you.

You can use the router to access the internet, but you wont' be able to directly connect to others, since you have effectively isolated yourself from them, as Jack said.

If your router has more than one LAN-side port, you can try to set the router to act as a switching extension (which it might do by default). In other words, your solution shouldn't involve the WAN port on the router at all.
