Need help With Network settings for faster XP boot up

Awhile back, I saw a thread here about changing a setting in the network. It was a change in the subnet mask, or something very similar that has a great advantage to speeding up the boot process for XP. WHat I can remember is that the numbers were 255.255.255.0 ( I think). I had to reformat and for the life of me cannot remember what to do!!!! Please Help!

Go to your nic's properties & set the following for the tcp/ip settings:

- disable DCHP
- set ip: 192.168.0.1
- subnet: 255.255.255.0

People should only do this if they understand what these settings mean. If you don't, you probably shouldn't make this change.

well, ihave dsl, and it took about 1min 15 sec for me to be able to connect...once i did the changes mentioned above, now it takes about 5 seconds....and i had no clue what i was doing and it worked 🙂

i'll explain it

DHCP is a server that automatically determines your IP.
when you run a router, the router takes an IP and splits it among all computers connected to the router. if you are on a Linksys router, go to DHCP tab then click on clients table. write down the IP of your computer in the network. go to control panel then network then click on TCP/IP and click properties. unselect auto ip detection and change the IP to the the IP the router said.

there we go, all 'splained 😉
