Need help with network/router setup

I just got a cheap Hawking router with a Netgear 4 port hub. It works pretty good to bring internet to two of my comps. But getting email is a pain. It takes a LOT longer with outlook (2000 and express), and doesn't even want to work with Juno. Is there some sort of optimization i can do? Also i set up a NETBEUI network, i can see one of the computers, but the other computer can't see mine. It has the same workgroup and all. Whats wrong? I have Windows 98 regular so i don't have that nice networking wizard like in ME.
