Need help with my ZEN MICRO firmware update.

I found the site to get the firmware update, but there are two available... one is

-Creative Zen Micro Firmware 1.11.01

and the other is...

Creative Zen Micro PlaysForSure Firmware for subscription music services 2.11.02

which one do I need/want?

I'd suggest the first one,
"Creative Zen Micro Firmware 1.11.01".
The other firmware looks like it only adds
MS DRM, requires more memory, and adds no real benefits.
MS DRM would likely disable listening to many digital music files
that aren't strictly identifiable, as to its' original source.
Also, do a Google search for "Zen Micro Firmware", there's probably
some discussion forum concerning the benefits of the two firmwares.

I have a Micro and just use the first firmware (1.11.01). I don't have any Napster or Yahoo music, so I don't need 2.0+ version. If you use Napster, you need the 2.11.02 version. This version is kind of nice since you don't need drivers in your host computer anymore. It is recognized in any Windows XP machine. The 1.11 version is actually newer and has better power management. The same power fixes will be added to the version 2 firmware eventually.

I want to be able to transfer files without installing the creative software on my PC. Does the first one [1.11.01] enable me to do this?

No you need the 2.0 firmware to use windows media player 10 to sync your music.

I use the 2.0 firmware because the creative software is SH*T compared to the simplicity of WM 10

so you either get better battery life or better software... hmm, so unfair

I barely notice a diffrence in battery life going from 1.0 to 2.0. IMHO There is no good reason to use 1.0, 2.0 is just better and the extra memory taken up is fairly minor.

Generally all of the negatives are more than made up for by having the ability to use WM 10 instead of the crappy creative software.

i have a zen micro

I use the 2.xxx firmware because it lets me just drag and drop files

the 1.xxx firmware you are REQUIRED to use creative's firmware.
the 2 firmware lets windows manage it (thru WMP, explorer, etc)

Also, the 2 firmware makes it work with many online music stores.

I get decent battery life (~7 hours usage a week without charging) on the 2 firmware
