show my computers. Here is my setup. Two desktops, both running XP Pro SP2 and one Laptop running XP Home SP2. I am using a basic NetGear Router. The router has four ports for computers and another port named "wan." The main thing I am looking to achieve is to allow for network printing. Only one of the desktops has a printer attached to it, and i want the other desktop to access it via the network, and the the laptop, to access the via wireless.

I have both comptuers plugged into the router, one in the port labeled "wan" and the Laptop IS able to see the network via wireless.

I am encountering a problem though with the computers actually seeing each other. I have them all in a workgroup called "MSHOME" and when i set the computer up to automatically find the IP address and network settings, both of the laptops come up with the limited or no connectivity warning. This being the case, i tried to manually enter the IP addresses, but with no luck. The computers still cannont see each other under view workgroup computers [i/] and the laptop cannot find a printer on the "MSHOME" network.

I'm hoping some one can offer some help here to what my problem may be. Im not sure, but i dont think that with a router i should have to enter each IP address in manually, but I may be wrong.

Once more, two desktops, one laptop, looking to access a printer on one of the desktops.
Running the computer through a netgear wireless router.

thanks,
T.K.

You shouldn't have a computer plugged into WAN, that's where the ethernet from the cable modem or whatever goes. All computers should be nodes in the LAN. Let the router be the DHCP server.

hmm Ok ill try that, thanks i didnt really know what the Wan was for, ill see if that helps.

WAN = wide area network
LAN = local area network

Also, change the default name of the workgroup...
