Need help with my SLI config

Just picked up a second 8800GTS and enabled SLI. I ran 3dmark06 and my score went up only 1000 points from 8000 to 9000. Am I overlooking something? All my bios settings are set for overclocking, things like sli memory disabled etc, but my clock speeds are all currently on default speeds.
Are there some settings I might need to mess with in the bios or is this the type of performance gain I should expect from SLI?
Sure hope I'm going to get more then this. I hardly think 1000 point gain justifies a $300 card.
 
Dang. Still not certain here. 3Dmark 06 says the following: Linked Display Adapters false

However I played oblivion with everything maxed and it was amazing so it must have been working there.
How can I know that both card are functioning properly?
