Need help with my new tablet

I bought this laptop on craigs list a week or so ago and it was described as a tablet. When doing my research all of the reviews say the same thing. I found this video describing all of the features.

When I rotate the screen and attempt to use it like a touch screen nothing happens. My understanding of tablets is that I should be able to touch the icons and click on them using my finger like the mouse.

Do I need to install certain software or do an update? Do I need to activate certain settings for it to be used as a tablet?

Thanks

Every HP tablet that I have ever used has required the use of a specialized stylus in order to work. That way you can lay your hand across it as one would a sheet of paper, and it would still work.

I thought that also. But I was thrown off when the guy in the video I posted in the OP was able to use his finger in place of the stylus.

Can you order a replacement stylus? Are there better ones than the HP ones?

Well, I can't take a look at the video now since I am at work, so I have no ides 🙂.

I know that you can oreder replacement styli from HP directly. When I was in school we had a tablet in our lab that we all would use from time to time, I really liked how I could spin the screen around the not have to have the keyboard jut out in front of it, let me get the screen closer to me.

my tx 2500 has touch screen capabilities. im not sure about that 1000 because it is older tech. my older toshiba tecra is only stylus capable. hp sells replacement stylus.

Anyway, i turned off the touch screen thru "pen and input devices" in control panel in vista. When i was writing with the stylus the screen would get confused when my hand rested on the screen while writing.

Anyone know where I find the replacement stylus? I've been looking overs HP's site and can't find them.

There are different types of screens. I don't know specifics about the HP series, but the Thinkpad tablets offer 2 types. 1. Wacom digitizer with stylus, 2. Wacom digitizer with stylus AND touch screen. I assume it's probably the same with the HP. The model with the 'touch screen' is the only one you can use your finger on.

You need to make sure to get the right stylus for your model. It's not as simple as getting any plastic stick, as you would with a PDA stylus. Usually tablet styluses have receiver and transmitter electronics in them. You also need to make sure it's the right size/shape to fit into your tablet stylus holder.
