I recently got a Dell 24 inch widescreen LCD and an eVGA 7800GT video card.

The Dell display has multiple video inputs including VGA, S-Video, Composite, and component. The problem is that I also have Dish Network and I decided to plug my Dish Network Receiver into the monitor using S-Video so that I could watch TV on the LCD. Well the picture quality wasn't at all what I expected.

The 7800 card has VIVO input and came with an adapter that plugs into the VIVO port and has component inputs, a composite input, and an s-video in and an s-video out. I thought that I could run the satellite reciever through the video card using the s-video in and then to the monitor using the s-video out in an effort to get a better picture. This did not work. maybe I did something wrong but when I have the satellite reciever hooked up through the video card this way and switch to s-video on the monitor, all I get is a low quality image of what is showing on the DVI input.

Did I do something wrong or is this even possible? I have a TV tuner card but when I run the satellite reciever through the TV card the quality is a little better but not really by much.

The quality of the display when running windows or any games is awesome no ghosting or anything its simply superb. However I was hoping that I could watch TV on the monitor as well and get a good high quality picture too.

If what I am trying to do with the s-video in/out ports on the card isnt possible then WHAT exactly are these s-video in/out ports for? I assume the s-video out is for running the display to a TV but what is the s-video in port for if you can't run into the card the way I am trying to do it?

Please help me out.

S-Video won't look good on a big display due to its extremely low resolution. Looks fine on my 7800GT/17" LCD though.

To use VIVO you have to download what NVIDIA labels as 'Multimedia software/WDM driver' in their drivers section. Personally I just use Media Player Classic to watch S-Video through that, but I think NVTV will do it.
