Need Help With My Microsoft Explorer Mouse

Hello-

I hope some one can help me. I have one of those 5 button Microsoft Explorer mice. I have had it for about 6 months and it was working just fine. I have not done a thing ( added stuff ) to my computer, but it is acting funny. It just freezes in games and while surfing. I currently use the USB connection. I even tried uninstalling the drivers and installing the latest drivers available from Microsoft,,Still did not work! I also tried to use it on the ps2 connection, but its still acting up. Any Ideas? Here is some information about my system:

AMD 800mhz, 128mb of Ram,Win98SE.

Thanks for the response. When it freezes the light on the bottom is on. Once it freezes is stays frozen,,,just cant use it. Also,,since my post I have shut down all of the windwos start up programs that run in the backround, that may be putting stress on the processor or memory.

Do you have another mouse you could try using?

When it freezes can you use the rest of the computer at all or is it totally frozen? I assume you can still use the keyboard, correct?

Does it freeze at random points or after a certain amount of coninued use?

I have a regular ps2 microsoft mouse that I am using now. and it seems to be ok. The Explorer mouse works for 10-15 minutes before it freezes. The rest of the comp seems fine.

My only thought is that the mouse has gone bad. Reinstalling Windows might fix it, though I highly doubt that it will.

Sorry I couldn't help you more.🙁

How long is the warranty? You might want to try contacting MS and see if they can help you or see if you can get a replacement.

I have the optical version plugged into the PS/2 port (no available usb ports left), and I've noticed that mine will pause for a half-second after browsing the net for 15-20 mins. It carries on (getting me killed in half-life) until I reboot Windows. Does anyone else have a similar problem?

I have the same problem when playing games like 10 min. into a game my mouse will spaz and glide over to the left and stay there for like 2 seconds. Although it continues to function it's just hella annoying. It worked fine for the last 3 months and just now started to act up. Could it be a hardware glitch? I'm gonna call Micro$loth and see what these retards have to say about it. Selling crappy products just pisses me off!

There's been problems with some of the MS optical mice...apparently some of the wires are breaking, sometimes inside the mouse housing, which is yielding intermittent freezes. Only way to really check is to try a different MS Optical and see what happens.

Very Important--

I contacted Microsoft over the internet for support and received a response withing 12 hours. They said the the problem is legit and it is a hardware failure in the mouse. They are sending me a new one to replace it, free of charge. I would suggest anyone else having the problem should do the same thing.

Thanks for your help!
