Need help with my LiteON 52x CD-Rom with XP Pro

Just bought a new LiteON 52x CD-Rom with model no. LTN526D.
My problem is that WinXP Pro wouldnt allow access to it. it sees the drive but everytime i click on it under Windows Explorer, the highlight goes back to C: What gives? im on a dual boot system and the drive works perfectly under windows ME. TIA!

is the drive seen in device manager??

yes. "the device is working properly" is diplayed on the status screen. It would sometimes work like when i tried installing britannica. the first disk wnt halfway through the installation then froze. i tried repeating the installation and cd drive would no longer explore the contents although the logo or icon of the britannica is diplayed in explorer.
