Hello Group

I just upgraded my system from an AMD (939) system to an Intel (duo-core) system and now I have been experiencing quite a few problems with my upgrade so I thought I would post in here and see if anyone had been through this too.

Basically, my new system was upgraded JUST for gaming and also all the other wonderful things that a home PC would offer as I pretty much do them all. However,
Gaming is my thing and then web-surfing which at least that?s working.

My mobo is a Gigabyte GA-p35-ds3r and I am using the Intel (duo-core) E6850 cpu. My video card is a NVIDIA (pci-e) 7900GTX which always worked perfectly with my games as

I Play mostly FPSs and especially the Rainbow series and also GRAW/GRAW2. Which
Now brings me to my current dilemma. When I try to game in GRAW2 or Rainbow-Vegas my system goes nuts and it is games specific.

In GRAW2 I can get to the main screen where I can then select all of the games options and then start the campaign, but as soon as I select the start campaign I then go to the little cut scene while the game loads up and then my graphics start to look very plain and chopped up and then my computer goes and restarts, everytime.

Now in Rainbow-Vegas what happens is this: as soon as I select the shortcut to play the game the game starts to do its thing but all I get is a blacked out full screen with a very good looking shiny bar that covers from one side of the screen to the otherside.

When I first started up Windows XP (home ed.) this past weekend I went to NVIDIAs website and DLd the latest drivers for my card so I am using the most current drivers for my card, although I haven?t tried any older drivers yet ?cause I thought I would come in here first and see if there is anything that I have to do to enable anything via software/programs on my new Intel (duo-core) system.

I know it may sound stupid but I haven?t built a Intel (duo-core) system before and perhaps there is something that I should do for configuring a Intel (duo-core) system.

Btw, I'm at work right now so its kinda hard typing this and looking over my shoulder at the same time :D

Thanks

Sounds like driver issues, can't really be heat coz it's not given any time to heat up. What games HAVE you played that did work correctly?

HI and thanks. Well, I only loaded up those two and since both of those don't work I didn't do anymore...didn't need the grief ;)

Btw, doing all of the rest of the windows stuff is a-ok! also I forgot to say that I am using the on-board sound and I must say it is freaking superb. At first I thought it could have

been that but I'm pretty sure it was a graphic card thing, another thing is that I have built many system beofre but not Intel so is there anything one must do for a (duo-core) system? tia

Have you downloaded all of the latest drivers for your graphics card?

EDIT: Whoops, reread it and you said you already did that. Hmm I have an intel core 2 duo system and I never had any of these problems, I dont know what to tell ya man, maybe someone will come around who knows their stuff better than i do.

Nah, it should work straight out of the box. You might want to run some orthos blend and/or small fft's and see what happens. I doubt it's memory related though. Try some old(er) drivers and make sure the drivers for the onboard sound are updated as well, guessing it's realtek, just go to their website. You sure you got drivers for the 7000 series btw?

It's possible that you simply have a bad graphics card, since in windows it's in 2d mode afaik, so there it will work just fine, but once it has to do something 3d like in games, it messes up.

I have the same MB as you... just make sure you installed all the MB drivers off the CD. One other thing you could do is install the Nvidia drivers off the cd that came with your video card and see how that works. You can always update them later.

_________________ UPDATE ______________________________

Hey Guys,

Well, I DLd/installed some different video drivers and then went into GRAW2 and tried it and the game punched out again into a reboot. So then I tried Rainbow6 Vegas and the same

thing happened where I get a black screen and a long silver bar going from one side of the monitor to the next.

I then thought that it seemed to me that my (3 month old LCD) 22" Gateway monitor wasn't acting right, kinda like it was locked in between the state of Windows mode and game mode

so I turned off my monitor and turned it on right away and 'BAM" I was in the normal Vegas screen. So I tried it and played it for about 20 minutes and it seemed fine. Now, comes the question of what is causing this?

Is it my new monitor starting to get weird or is it my 7900GTX card getting weird or perhaps something with my mobo drivers...<sigh>

I love upgrades!

P.S. just to let you guys know, thw onboard sound is really, really good but please listen
I am not an audio file buff just a gamer. I left out installing my X-FI card and I am glad I did...at least so far :D

OOPs!!!!!!!!! one other thing that I did after installing the new/older drivers and experiencing the same problem, I shut down my computer and reinstalled my 7900GTX and when I booted back up I went into the mobos bios looking for something that I might of passed up and I found that I had NOT selected the "PEG" which is for PCIE x16 graphics card I had left it at "PCI" <stupid me >
anyway, that wasn't it 'cause I really thought it was when I saw that.
