I'm in the process of building my first PC, and would like all of your input on what I've choosen so far. Let me know your thoughts and any recomendations to change anything.

Motherboard: ASUS 800Mhz FSB Model# P4C800-E Deluxe
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 / 3.0CGHz 800 MHz FSB - Retail
Case: Cooler Master Model# ATC-201B-BXT
Power Supply: Antec True480 with Blue LED Fan
RAM: Corsair XMS Extreme Memory Speed Series, Low Latency (Twin Pack) 1GB(2 x 512MB) 2x(64MX64) PC-3700 With Heat Spreaders. (or)
Corsair TWINX1024-3700PT 1GB DDR466 XMS3700 Dual-Channel Memory w/Platinum Heat Spreader.
HD: ?
DVD-RW: Sony DRU510A DVD+RW/DVD-RW EIDE Combo Drive
CD-ROM: ?
Video Card: ATI AIW 9800?, ATI 9800 Pro 128?, or ATI 9800 Pro 256
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum (Model SB0240P)
Speakers: ?
Headphones: ?

As you can see I need some help with a few things. I would like at least 2 hard drives or more for Raid, a good video card for gaming, and recording TV (like Tivo), A CD-Rom or DVD Drive to just play CD's or watch DVD's (to lower wear and tear on Sony DVD-RW), Some decent Speakers (doesn't have to be top of the line), and a really good set of headphones).

In time I would also like to get into OCling.
So how far can I OC the 3.0 w/stock cooling, and which memory is the best choice for OCling. Can I just use the stock heatsink w/the 3.0 retail pkg., or should I purchase a heatsink, thermal paste, and additional (different types/sizes of fans)? I do want the machine to be somewhat quite?

Thank you all for your help.

mobo: good (IS7 is my personal favorite by i'm an abit fanboy)
CPU: i assume this is gonna be OCed so i would go with a 2.4/2.6/2.8C to save money and end up with equal clock speeds after the OC. if you are not gonna OC get the 2.8C, the extra 200mhz is not worth the extra $
case: beautiful
power supply: overkill. antec truepower 380 will be MORE than sufficent and will save you $30
ram: get regular XMS, LL does nothing regular XMS cant do
HD: 80 GD western digital special edition for $80 is a great buy @ newegg OR u can go to the hot deals thread if you dont mind doin some leg work
DVD-RW: good
CD-ROM: whatever is cheapest, but if i were you i would get a 52X liteon. the c d burning capabilites on the DVD-RW are quite slow and the liteon drives are not too much more than a plain jane CD-ROM
Video: 256 on the 9800 pro does nothing as evidenced in the doom 3 benchies, i would get a 9700 pro or a 9800 pro 128 if i had money to spare
Sound card: if you want to save $ get regular audigy 2
speakers: z-560's. affordable 400W system with great sound quality
headphone: cant help you there

hope it helped

Thanks guys.

Just a few more questions.

Can I just use the stock heatsink w/the 2.8 retail pkg., or should I purchase a heatsink, thermal paste.
Do I need to add any additonal fans.
What do you guys think about tha ATI 9800 All in Wonder card, instead of the 9800 pro 128.
Hard Drive: - Western digital or Seagate Baracuda - And how about Serial ATA and setting up a raid.
Ram: - Should I get the Corasir 3700'.

Thanks in advance

It's all about personal preference. if you plan on OCing your processor, of if you don't feel comfortable with a stock HSF, then get an after market one. You should def. use either a thermal pad or arctic silver 3. As the fans go, everything should be fine. The only thing that might get a little hot is the video card, in which you can buy a slot fan that you put below the video card for some extra cooling. The 9800 pro offers more options for DVD playback and such, and if this is for college, this could work to your advantage. If not, it's not really worth the extra money.

I have (2) 120 GB Western Digital Drives Raided. Works great. I'd take WD over any other company.
I'll leave the Ram up to you =) Hope this helped a little

I'd prefer an Abit IC7 or the Asus

9800Pro w/ 128mb will be fine

Go for an Audigy2 (non platinum)

Western Digital rulz, get a Raid 0 config w/ minimum of 80GB

DOnt waste ur money on TwinX exactly matched crapola, just buy two sticks. I have 3 sticks of 512mb HyperX pc3500 ... they all work fine with each other, even tho one is an "evaluation" version, one is from newegg and the third one from best buy!
