ok, I just got a 9700pro for xmas.

my comp specs are:
athlon xp 1700+
512mb pc2700 ddr ram
soyo dragon lite kt333
9700pro 128mb

I was currently running 2kpro when I got it, and i popped it in, installed the drivers, and it worked perfectly.

I needed to format, so I decided to give XP pro a try. (I was running 2kpro, because i thought my previous gfx was messing up my comp in XP; which is a whole nother story) I format my comp and, first thing I do is load my gfx drivers(from the cd they gave me), restart, and right after the windows loading screen, my moniter suddenly switches to standby, and won't display a thing.

When i restarted it, after nothing was being displayed, it asked if i wanted to start in safe mode cuz windows crashed while loading. i start in safe mode, and then deleted the drivers i had just installed and then restarted XP loaded right up.

I decided to try to install SP2 before installing the ATI drivers, thinking that may have caused the problem, i downloaded, installed it, restarted, and boom. same thing, moniter just goes to standby after windows loading screen.

So i go back to safe mode remove sp2, restart, and it works, and here i am, posting for help.

after posting this, im going to try to install the ATI drivers from the site w/o sp2 and seeing if that works. and i will edit this post saying if it worked or not.

but incase it doesnt, does anyone know what would cause this? and/or how to fix it?

thx,
robert

--EDIT-- ok wow, i feel really stupid, forgot to download that .NET Version 1.1 Framework...wow lol

I would go in this order:

1) unplug your network cable

2) do a fresh install of WinXP

3) install SP2 and reboot

4) install your motherboard's VIA 4-in-1 driver package and reboot. NOTE that this is before installing the video-card drivers!!

5) after installing the chipset drivers and rebooting, now install your ATI video-card drivers and reboot again.

6) get your antivirus software installed, plug in your network cable, update your antivirus software, and then hit Windows Update for further security updates.

i had almost the exact same problem when i upgraded to SP2. ended up being a driver problem with my fortissimo2 sound card.
