Need Help with my Asus P5WD2 Premium Motherboard !

I have been trying to install windows for the past day...no luck. First the new SATA Maxtor DiamondMax drive that I bought is hosed so that was a no go.

Now, I am trying to use my backup drive from my other system. It is a 45Gb IDE IBM drive. I have put it on the same connector as my CD rom, both connected to the blue Primary IDE connector. When installing windows I get to the part with formatting the drive and it tells me there is something wrong with the drive, or if I format it on my other computer, it gets to the part where it copies the files and stops after a few files and says that they can't be copied. I have checked the drive on three seperate drive programs (Disk Doctor, Storage Management in XP and Maxtor Maxblast) and the drive seems ok. I use it as my backup drive all the time.

I have read that when the the cd rom drive (actually a Ben Q DVD writer) and the hard drive are connected to the blue connector, there is no need for drivers.....Is this true ? What else can I try while I wait for my Maxtor to be replaced ?

I have tried everything, but Windows will not let me install on any drive I put in. Either SATA or IDE. I have F6'd the drivers that came with the install and upgraded to the 0606 Bios. Nothing. I think the board is just defective....it shouldn't be this hard to install Windows.

The only question I might have is....could it be my CPU that is defective instead ?

I am just going to return the board and wait a couple of weeks....maybe the 975 boards will be out by then.

Try disconnecting all your devices except the hardrive. Windows will detect the cd drives later. You can also try changing the jumper on the drive. I prefer the master setting over cable select.
